In 2018, in winter/spring, I had to have some eye surgeries realized. In the phases between the surgeries, the visual perceptions were inspiringly disturbed: distorted, blurred, sometimes only pinpoint sharp, and, occasionally, a wandering dot in the field of view ...
In this visual aggravation, I passed the time with the television. One day the DVD Trainspotting (Danny Boyle, GB, 1996) fell into my hands, which I inhaled several times with disturbed perception. By the end of spring my eyes were OK again.
In summer I remembered again the distorted perception of the Trainspotting session ... Although it seemed dangerous to use this cult film as found footage material, I risked to film the film with an HD camera fragmented, inverted and disintegrating the normal time structure, several times. As a result, I conceived the selection exclusively on interior scenes and again fragmented the frame. For the end I realized a sequence of scenes with faces in close-ups, which, presumably imperceptibly for the viewer, again refer to the beginning of the film. Then I established the white dot and let it slowly glide through the image. In addition, I extended the black film between the title and the first scene.
Thus the matrix of hypnotic-psychedelic deconstruction was perfect. The originally linear sound structure of a typical street noise, which was created during the filming through the slightly open window, was increasingly fragmented by the editing work. This created, as if by itself, an ideal noise sound.
The title HYLO - VISION came automatically, since I, since the eye surgeries, have to use the Hylo Vision drops several times a day, so that the new plastic lenses remain supple ... (Dietmar Brehm)
