Crossing borders

The conflict between Israel and Palestine is reduced to absurdity in The Men Behind the Wall with the help of the dating app Tinder. Inés Moldavsky uses it to contact men on the other side of the wall, crossing spatial, political and gender-specific borders in the process. Until Hungary's membership, one of Europe's Schengen borders was the Seewinkel on Lake Neusiedl, where the deployment of the Austrian army was called Aktion Limes. Ralo Mayer (alias wr) juxtaposes the landscape images with quotes on the global political situation. The expulsion of the Sudeten Germans from a village on the Bavarian-Czech border had a dramatic impact on the lives of Wenzel and Emma. The post-war story in Frauentag by Johannes Holzhausen still shows its consequences today. (Brigitta Burger-Utzer)
