Beacon

Distant echoes of stories of the sea mingle with the banality of today´s touristy beachlife. In its collage of places of expectation and with its seductive prospects of the sea, Beacon sets off on a journey with no distinct destination.

Seamlessly combining travelogue footage and appropriate clips from feature films, Beacon produces a single, imaginary locale. Distant echoes of stories of the sea mingle with the banality of today´s touristy beachlife. In its collage of places and expectation and with its seductive prospects of the sea, Beacon sets off on a journey with no distinct destination.

"This absolute work of art is characterized by its extreme precision of the framing and by the specific way the montage of images creates the off-text."

(Augusto M. Seabra, Público, Lisbon 2002)

Beacon similarly evokes the atmosphere of the ‘in-between’ through reverie on our romantic connotations of the sea, as container of history, exotic underworld, and means of escape and travel. Combining travelogue footage and appropriated clips from feature films, the result is a single, imaginary locale.
