Chris Marker

Born 1921 in Neuilly-sur-Seine (F), died 2012 in Paris (F); 1937-39 studied Philosophy; during WWII he fought in the Résistance and later was a translater in US Army; since 1945 writer, photographer and film critic. Since the 1950s he wrote countless important texts, amongst others LA JETÉE (1962). SANS SOLEIL (1983) established him as one as one of the most important documentarist and essayist of film history.
