Michael Heindl

Michael Heindl (*1988 in Linz) studied painting at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and at the NCAD in Dublin. He lives and works in Vienna and Scharten (Upper Austria). In his works, he deals with the contradictions and paradoxes of human action in the face of a present that is experienced as crisis-ridden. His main themes are dealing with the threat of climate catastrophe and a capitalism that is perceived as being without alternative. He has received several art awards, including the Jury Prize of VIS 2021, the Crossing Europe Innovative Award 2020 (Jury Prize), the LENTOS Art Prize 2016 and the Prize of the Passau Art Association 2014.
He has participated in numerous exhibitions and film festivals: Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, VIENNALE, IFFR Rotterdam, Innsbruck Biennale 24, MSUB Belgrade, Elektrohalle Rhomberg, Picture Theory Gallery NYC, Hong Kong Arts Center, Museum der Arbeit Hamburg, Vancouver Int. Film Festival, Kunsthalle Wien, Gezira Art Center Cairo, OSTRALE Dresden, Kunstverein <rotor>, Steirischer Herbst, parallel Vienna, Forum Stadtpark Graz, Galerie 5020 Salzburg.
