Olena Newkryta

Olena Newkryta (*1990, Ukraine) is a visual artist, curator and cultural worker based in Vienna. Her research based works are primarily concerned with how individual and collective subjectivities are shaped by historical, political and economic conditions as well as technological infrastructures. Olena studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. She is currently a member of The Golden Pixel Cooperative, association for moving images, arts and media based in Vienna.

Olena has received various prizes and grants such as the Working Grant For Artists of the City of Vienna (2022), START scholarship of the Federal Ministry for Culture (2019), Prize of the Lentos Museum Friends (2018), Award of the Kunsthalle Wien (2017). Her work has been presented at international exhibitions, film festivals and biennales, including WRO Media Art Biennale (PL), VISIO - Lo schermo del´arte Festival Florenz (IT), Antimatter Media Art Festival (CA), Diagonale - Festival of Austrian Film (AT), Kyiv International Short Film Festival (UA), Kunsthalle Vienna (AT), Lentos Kunstmuseum (AT), Kunsthaus Graz (AT), Kunstraum Niederösterreich Vienna (AT), Kunsthalle Exnergasse Vienna (AT), Crossing Europe Filmfestival (AT), Blickle Kino at Belvedere 21 (AT).
