is a Mexican-Austrian filmmaker whose work traces diasporic histories and the (dis)appearances of narratives within enduring colonial structures. Using animation and open-source digital tools, she treats material and landscape as sites where history continues to speak. Mara has a background in documentary from Goldsmiths University of London and media/film & art from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her work on Déchoukaj, a collaborative research project exploring how Caribbean communities contend with the material and immaterial legacies of colonialism, was supported through fellowships from the Austrian Federal Art & Film Program and Superrr Lab Berlin. Alongside her artistic practice, she is a community organizer at Gewächshaus, a Vienna-based BIPoC film network, and a current fellow at SİNEMAplural, where she facilitates workshops and curates screenings focused on accessibility and experimentation.
