Eye Texts
These works (Eye Texts, Mouth Text, Forehead Text) are concerned with body texts, inscriptions of letters upon the body. The body itself becomes construed as a medium, as writing, whereby the body parts create the letters. The alphabet of letters is mirrored in the anatomy of bodily organs. The established order of the body as well as language itself is undermined by way of the congruence or incongruence of the bodily and textual alphabets. The body becomes the instrument of a new speech. It virtually becomes a tongue that does not formulate sounds but rather signs. These bodily signs that are simultaneously linguistic signs open a new pragmatic horizon of meaning and action. (Peter Weibel, translation: Eve Heller)
