FORMS IN RELATION TO LIFE. Die Wiener Werkbundsiedlung. Ein Film von Heidrun Holzfeind

Gasometer Megaplex, Studio C

"This basic idea: to achieve as much as possible with as little means as possible ... living spaces that are intended to create space for a real life beyond the prescribed functions." (Walter Sobotka)

The film attempts to capture the search for this "real life" in images and accompanies residents in their everyday lives in their houses and gardens. 80 years after the completion of the Vienna Werkbund Estate, the film examines how the ideas of the modern model houses are "lived" in everyday life today and how the estate as a whole functions as a social space. Which of the architects' ideas have been realized, which have failed? How have the residents furnished the houses today and adapted them to their needs? How do they deal with the minimal living space, how do they deal with the requirements of monument protection? And who lives today "in the most important manifestation of modernism in Austria"? The film focuses on seven people from the Wekbund Estate, whom I visited repeatedly over the course of a year. (Heidrun Holzfeind)
