body trail

Do human movements leave traces, or do they remain merely ephemeral gestures? In sliding whites, ice skaters make their elegant circles, while prelude shows strictly framed images of walkers. The body as experiment and material can be found again in CORNERS and body trail, in the latter the tension is built up through the transformation of the bodies from immobile sculptural packages to anarchic, aimless city runners. Accentuated piano music, indebted to classical modernism, lends a balletic rigor to Michaela Schwentner's digitally softened images. In Burning Palace, on the other hand, professional dancers perform an extremely sensual and comical ballet in a plush hotel, celebrating the intimate secrets of such a place. (Ute Katschthaler)
