The lightness of being

Optical Vacuum captures places of inbetween-ness: empty offices, café terraces in the wind, deserted beach promenades, monotonous laundromat interiors.
Dariusz Kowalski has collected all these images on the Internet and assembled them into an impressive panorama of transit. Stephen Mathewson reads diary entries in which the abyss of the existential opens up in the banality of everyday life.
Beacon by Matthias Müller and Christoph Girardet is also a visual arc of beach shots, lighthouses and isolated people, which takes a melancholy look into the distance.
Both films transport us to a dreamlike world full of longing and barrenness. The lightness of being does not have to be unbearable. (Michaela Grill)
