The formal leitmotif of this program is the documentary collage: the bringing together of different materials to create something entirely new or a new impression.
In All Restrictions End, Reza Haeri combines archive material from Iranian cinema, images of Persian painting from different eras, graphics from the time of the Islamic Revolution and contemporary documents of an artistic and political nature. The starting point of his research is the political significance of clothing and fashion, both in the history of culture and art and in Iran's daily politics.
Loosely based on the writer Sergei Tretyakov, Hito Steyerl compiles the biography of an object in her essay film, specifically the Boeing 4X-JYI. Steyerl explains what this airplane has to do with the war and action films Hell's Angel (Howard Hughes, 1930) and Speed (Jan de Bond, 1994), the Israeli Air Force and the hostage rescue in Entebbe in the mid-1970s, the digital revolution and current art production, among other things, in a ludicrous yet self-reflexive recycling tour through the loops of capital. In Free Fall impressively demonstrates how economies function even in times of crisis. (Dietmar Schwärzler)
