Each year since 1995, the Viennale has invited a renowned filmmaker to produce a little film, a moment of cinema without any restrictions or expectations – apart from the given time of about one minute length. A minimalist, intense, lively piece of film, standing for itself and cinema as a whole at the same time. The developed works are just as different from each other as one can imagine – each being a little world on its own. Whether it is found footage material or documentary shorts or tender and quiet moments in very personal home movies – the gambles between the filmmakers and the festival do always bear fruit in a mysterious way. Over the years this has resulted in a series of absolutely unique, exceptional works: a series full of surprises, breaks, peculiarities and rhythms.
