Refuge. Asylum. Where?

Long before the so-called refugee crisis, the filmmakers were already dealing with the complexity of phenomena such as migration movements and isolationist policies. All the films in this programme are intended as an appeal to see the drama of flight and the uprooting of those who no longer see a future in their homeland, in contrast to simplistic categorisations of the "invading" foreigners. The formal methods used to convey the political content range from the disturbing documentary film of the Austrian Schengen border (Limes - Aktion Limes) to conceptual performance videos (Corners, Mariage Blanc, Migration Standards) to montage films of amateur travel films with narratives by refugees (Passages) to the restless camera of a desperate Kurt Kren in exile in America.
